Power of the Dark Crystal

That's fantastic that Genndy Tartakovsky is directing and producing it. I love his cartoons, especially Samurai Jack. Watching his "Clone Wars" cartoons was strange, because, unlike with Mr. Lucas's story telling, I actually cared about the characters. In fact, the cartoon built suspense much better than the multi-million dollar special effects of the movies.

That said, I am made a bit skeptical by the plot synopsis on the write-up for the new Dark Crystal movie. I think Mr. Tartakovsky will be able to pack it with a lot of good ideas, for sure.

I also would have been extremely skeptical, but it looks like they're going in the right direction. That poster's awesome.

It's going to be tough not having Chamberlain around. We DID name our dorm room toilet after him.

Excuse me, I need to go feed the Chamberlain.

To be fair, the story/writing in the original Dark Crystal was fairly ho-hum (it was a pre-PG13 kids movie).

I hope they go for an art house / dark fantasy vibe, and considering some of the other work that's come out of Henson Studios in the past two decades (Farscape and The Storyteller in particular) I may get my wish.

I haven't really thought about it in a while, but it's interesting how much the look of the original Dark Crystal informed the art-direction style in Farscape.

If any of you haven't seen the Making of the Dark Crystal documentary that comes on the DVD version of the film, do check it out. It's well worth your time/money...

It as been about two years since I last saw the Dark Crystal, but I seem to remember that the intense imagination of the movie well made up for the stilted dialogue.
The Storyteller series aired when I was in middle school and made quite an impression on me.
