(CNN) -- Outspoken comedian and liberal radio host Al Franken announced Wednesday that he intends to run for the U.S. Senate from his home state of Minnesota.
On his Web site -- alfranken.com -- the NBC "Saturday Night Live" veteran said he will vie for the seat now held by Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.

I really can't wait for a live debate between Franken and Coleman. Mediocre politico vs. political comedian? It's going to be a fucking massacre!!!
"I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. and doggone it, people like me!"
Sorry to sound cynical, but could this be a sign that something in representative government is not working well for us when stand-up comedians are what is left of our dwindling hope for progressive legislation?
DAN AKYROYD/CHEVY CHASE 2008!
They did elect a professional wrestler to Governer though so I would say he has a good chance.
Now that I think about it, the merging of Hollywood stardom and US political success became beyond absurd a long time ago.
To be fair, Mr. Franken has fashioned himself into a pundit and commentator in the last decade. So it isn't like John Belushi is running for Senate.

Yes. When "the Fool" is the only one left who dares speak truth to the King you're in a fairly bad situation, especially when the King is a malicious narcissist and his main adviser is an unhinged cyborg!
That said, I'd like to see a Bill Murray/Reanimated Corps of Bill Hicks Ticket in 2008! Murray could spend all his time insulting people in ways far too subtle for them to detect/quoting Renaissance philosophy seemingly at random and Hicks would alternate between "I fucking told you so!" and "Sweet Lord, why did you bring me back? Let me die again! I want to be one with the Universe again! You people disgust me!".
Zool won't stand a chance with Murray as Pres!
