I think he, as a raging academic, is more often addressing the "academic" writers of the contemporary right than these guys in his essays. It's not his fault that these writers are often very poor examples of "academia"...
If you're looking for something with less of a romantic tint, you can't go wrong with Glenn Greenwald. As for me, I enjoy the drama as well as the completely obscure historical allusions. What can I say, I like looking shit up =D
