A happy place

After a movie like that need a happy place I can go. It is just amazing that 4 years later we still are in a pile of shit, but only deeper and I still don't have a full time job to keep my mind off of it. So that is why I visit my furry friends.

Shigeo Fukuda

Mr. Fukuda makes mostly posters and sculptures. The posters are on par with any Saul Bass or Milton Glaser work. The sculptures usually representations that can only be decoded a specific way. My favorite piece is "Lunch With A Helmut On", a cloud of 848 arc-welded forks knives and spoons that form the shadow of a motorbike.
Link to some movies of Mr. Fukuda's sculptures.

The Sunset of the Pax Americana

"It started after World War II, as Britain, broken and bleeding red ink from two world wars, in full imperial overstretch, gave up its colonies one by one and likewise gave up the job both of keeping the world's sea lanes open, and of slapping around minor powers who bucked the system. The formal birth of the Pax Americana and the final grave of the old regime, was the Suez canal, when the US told Britain and France in no uncertain terms to withdraw from the Suez and threatened to cause a financial crisis for England by selling off the US's pound reserves. Britain and France were forced to withdraw and it was clear that the days of British supremacy (and French free action in the Med) were over."

"Tactical analysis on Italy v France"

The finals of a strange sporting event called the World Cup are on Sunday evening in Euroland. This is essentially the agressions of 600 years of nationalist inner-continental warfare played out on a soccer field. It is a big deal here and it would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to party among the "vigorously violent lumpen-prole hooligans thoroughly involved in vandalism, gang-fights and small-scale narcotics trafficking."
The United States national team fared very poorly in the event. This is what the president had to say about it.
