That's the premise of HG Wells' 1895 story "The Time Machine".

Except the rich were pudgy, mute pleasure-beings called the Eloi who were helpless and were cared for completely by the poor race, who where cunning troglodytes called the Morlocks.

The image above is from the 1960 film adaptation of "The Time Machine". The (helpless) skinny blond chick on the ground is an Eloi and the handyman of tomorrow about to grope her is a Morlock. Good times!

I think it's an interesting idea (form specialization within humanity due to isolation) but I doubt it would happen for purely class/social reasons (people just like fucking waaay too much for that to happen).

Certainly, but I suspect that by the time biotechnology gets done transforming the species, you won't be able to tell a human from a giant clam or a houseplant.

Who knows what transformations will take place. It will likely be more influenced by cultural, rather than utilitarian, pressures. I suspect such transformations will occur along class lines, as people will pay dearly to have "improvements" made.

Also, bravo on the inclusion of the b-movie still.

"Women, on the other hand, will develop lighter, smooth, hairless skin, large clear eyes, pert breasts, glossy hair, and even features, he adds."

I think this guy has been watching WAAAAY too much MANGA.

"He carried out the report for men's satellite TV channel Bravo."

Clearly, this is a reliable scientific source . . . I think not.
