It seems like they did a lot of streamlining. It seems to be running much faster on my laptop.

Man, the repositories are being really cranky and slow.

Yeah, it took me all day to download the update for my test sever at work. I was getting sub-k doldrums that would last for hours...

I find it good to wait for all the freaks to rush through their downloads in the first few days. After that the servers are not so bogged down. You can also find torrent downloads for the install disk that can often be faster because of the massive seeder presence.

That's probably the way to go right now. Auto-update from 7.10 just times out at the moment.

I downloaded the install disk through the torrent file in about a half hour. I also find that clean installs of the root file system are more dependable than the upgrade system process.

The tag lines on the the front page of the website are great albeit somewhat arrogant in a geeky way:

"All operating systems include stuff you will never use . . .
Ubuntu 8.04 has an uninstall feature for example . . .
We know, completely redundant.

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS for desktops
You'll never go back"
