This movie ROCKS!!! pete its way better then The Host and its 100 times better then Cloverfield. It has by far the most BURTAL ending i have seen in a long time. Stephen King for the WIN!!!!
Cool. A coworker was telling me about it. It sounds vaugely like an HP Lovecraft story, not any particular one mind you.
Ah-ha. "The story makes brief mention of the horror writer H. P. Lovecraft, as the creatures and the concept of their origin in another dimension share a similarity with themes which commonly appeared in Lovecraft's writing. King has widely praised Lovecraft as a horror writer and has directly borrowed from him in several other stories." (Wikipedia)
The novella was written before AD&D's Ravenloft, and likely influenced it, I'd postulate.
Apparently, this story was one of the original inspirations for Half-Life...
I didn't see it because around the time of its release, early/midwinter, the major weather type at my house is myst/fog. That, and the film's creepy crawlies are a bit too creepy for me (my reward for watching Alien when I was 8 years old). Just reading about this movie (and I did read about its ending) made me think twice about letting the cats out in the morning...

Lovecraft + 1/2 life = The Mist

half-life. Bigtime.
Trans-dimensional creepy crawlies are the best kind!
There's something in my mammal brain that just doesn't cope well with mouths that have more than one hinge to them :-(
