They like him in Berlin...

The crowd spilled away from the Column for blocks. Police spokesman Bernhard Schodrowski said there were more than 200,000 people, nearly three times the 75,000 Obama drew in Oregon this spring in his largest previous audience.

Not surprisingly, I bet a lot of them there today were American ex-pats.

Yeah, that's what NPR was saying yesterday. That he drew all of the ex-patriots from the Continent and Britain.

I did not hear about Obama arriving in Berlin to speechify until after the fact, and so I missed the rally.

There was a lot of local political posturing this way and that and it sounded as if he was not actually going to come.

This also happened very quickly. Wasn't he in Afghanistan the day before yesterday?

He did a well orchestrated whirlwind tour of Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel and Palestine.

He and McCain are only polling 3% apart. But I don't expect McCain to get out the hate vote as W. did.

I foresee Obama's presidency being somewhat like FDRs. I think a lot of his politicking now is to persuade the Oligarchs that he is not going to rock the boat too much. Like how he voted for FISA. I think at heart he is technocrat, much like Gore. Like FDR, he may alienate the Oligarchs early on by defending the greater good (let's hope)

so you guys still think Obama will win?

Well. It potentially could be as close as the last two elections. But I think McCain lacks the charisma of W or Bubba Clinton. I think it's fair to compare him to Dole, in terms of his caliber as a candidate.

My instincts say Obama will win, but then, my instincts also told me that Gore and Kerry would both win as well (Because they did? Possible, but now irrelevant).
